According to the acting head of communication for the department, Oupa Bodibe, they are now past the half way mark to reach the expected 350 000 applications.
“We are pleased that the online application system has been able to cope with the traffic and we have been able to cope with challenges as they arise,” said Bodibe.
“On average we are processing over 60 000 applications per day.
“This bears testament that in the coming years, the department will be in a position to complete the admissions process within a year, and possibly expand to include other grades.”
He said the department has picked up that there seems to be confusion regarding the interpretation of waiting list numbers, which can be summarized as follows:
There are three types of waiting list numbers:
- WA – means that the parent qualifies in terms of the regulation
- WB – means that the parent does not qualify and needs to apply to a school where the waiting list will be WA
- WAB – means that the location of the address that the Parent inserted could not be verified. Verification will take place at the school/s on presentation of the required documentation.
“Parents are urged to use Google Chrome to access the online website, as is it faster than other search engines.
“Parents are also reminded to submit their documents to the school within seven days. If documents are not submitted within the stipulated period, the application cannot be completed.”
Parents that have not yet applied for Grade 1 and 8 must do so as soon as possible.
The closing date for application is the June 12 at midnight. The placement of learners will start from July 24.
Parents with learners in Grade 2-7 and Grade 9-11 are also reminded of re-enrollment at the school.
