Get ready for some explosive boxing at Carnival City

Carnival City will be the battleground for the newly launched pan-African boxing series, the Big Top Beat Down, which will take place at the casino’s Big Top Arena on Friday, April 28.

The tournament will feature pugilists from nine African countries who will compete in 10 bouts, including three title fights.

Notable fighters who will feature on the card include the undefeated Tommy Oosthuizen and cruiserweight Junior Makabu from the DRC.

Another headline fighter is Ruann Visser, who returns from a three-week training camp in Austria and served as Wladimir Klitschko’s main sparring partner. He faces a tough customer in Kenyan journeyman Bernard Adie.

South African heavyweight champion Osbourne Machimana will be vying for multiple champion status as he faces Ghana international Paakwesi Ankrah for the vacant WBF African heavyweight title.

Jimmy Mbanji of the DRC will challenge Ugandan WBF intercontinental light heavyweight champion David Bassjammuville for his championship.

Oosthuizen’s opponent for the vacant ABU South African light heavyweight title is yet to be announced.

The tournament will be brought to you by Kwesé TV and Kalakoda Promotions.

Fight fans all over the continent can watch all the action unfold live on the Kwesé app. Fans can subscribe to Kwesé on www.kwese.com or download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

“We are delighted to get boxing going again at Carnival City and the fight card on the 28th looks top drawer,” said Sun International’s Elardus Senekal.

“We are happy to be working with the Kalakoda Promotions and the Kwesé Sport team and look forward to more exciting shows with them.”
