CBC’s young guns crowned Coca-Cola T20 Easterns champions
Christian Brothers’ College’s senior cricket team were crowned the 2017 Coca-Cola T20 Easterns champions on February 7 following a six-wicket victory over St Benedict’s College.

The final showdown took place at St Dunstan’s College in Benoni.
This was CBC’s first triumph of the annual tournament.
Having asked to field first, the local school bowled out St. Benedict’s for 122 runs before chasing down the asked target after 17.3 overs.
CBC batsman Ricardo Meade led the chase as he finished with a mighty unbeaten half-ton at the back of some economical bowling by teammate Njabulo Shabalala, who had earlier hurt St. Benedict’s with his 3/13 in just four overs.
“It was a very good team performance from the start,” lauded CBC Director of Sport, Justin Stoop.
“The guys have been very focussed from the beginning of the season on doing well for the college and for the team. Well done to the guys – I’m very proud of them.”
CBC’s quest for glory began back in September where they came out top of their pool to qualify comfortably for the play-off stages.
They moved on to the quarter-finals, where they would face Hoërskool Hoogenhout before triumphing by 26 runs to set a semi-final date with Hoërskool Marais Viljoen. Marais Viljoen were dealt with by four wickets and only their St Benedict’s counterparts stood between CBC and the crown.
The local college moved on to face Hoërskool Nelspruit on February 10 at CBC in a play-off match for the right to feature in the national T20 tournament, which pits the best cricketing schools against each other.
The CBC outfit unfortunately came short via the D/L method, missing out by 20 runs.
They finished the final against St. Benedict’s with a total of 123/4 to be crowned Eastern kings. – @SabeloBoksburg
