This was unanimous declaration by young bright minds at the Ekurhuleni High Schools Public Speaking Competition, held on February 14.
The competition’s bone of contention was comprehensive on sexual reproduction health rights and responsibilities in schools.
Learners used the occasion to present robust arguments on the subject.
However, Lindokuhle Mathebula a Grade 12 learner from Mamelong Comprehensive High School in Tsakane, stole the show.
Her argument centered on extensive sexual health education in schools and in communities as a tool to address the scourge of sexual health ills. Such education would reduce risky behaviour among schoolchildren, she argued.
“The advantages of sexual health education is in its inherent ability to dispel myths on sexual health matters, such as to say sleeping with a virgin cures Aids,” she said.

Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Services, Clr Dora Mlambo, commended the young people for the amount of work invested in their presentations.
“The level of confidence you display when you ascend the stage to the robustness in your arguments only proves that the future of this country is in good hands.
“As the city we are proud to have intelligent young people in the community. When we see you, we are convinced that indeed education is the key to success in all areas of our lives,” Mlambo said.
Mlambo further congratulated the top achievers and all participants.
She expressed gratitude to educators for equipping learners with skills to be highly competitive.
