Boksburg boxing mourns as stalwart passes away
Boksburg’s boxing fraternity is mourning the loss of one if its stalwarts.
This is after former boxer and trainer Pieter Nienaber died on January 10, aged 79.
He is survived by his wife Kitty and his sons Izak, Andre, Barend and Pieter.
The former member of the army had a lengthy battle with renal failure before his passing.
Born and bred in Boksburg, Nienaber spent approximately 50 years at the Boksburg Boxing Club, where he was a boxer, trainer, coach, judge and referee.
His former students include Martin van Wyk, Charles Oosthuizen and Oosthuizen’s boxing-star son, Tommy. – @SabeloBoksburg
