Boksburg claim three-wicket win
Boksburg enjoyed perfect preparation for the local derby clash against CBC Old Boys as they claimed a convincing three-wicket win against Alberton at the Lindeque Oval.
The Prince George Park outfit’s tight bowling and fielding deprived and frustrated Alberton, who struggled to get going. Boksburg’s command of the field was led by Matthew Hollard (4/25; two maidens), John Haywood (3/24; two maidens) and Heinrich Cronje (2/33).
Most of Hollard’s wickets – three to be specific – arrived towards the end of Alberton’s time behind the crease as the strike bowler finished the home side off – taking a hat-trick of wickets and conceding just one run in that period.
Boksburg’s heroics saw Alberton bowled out for 141 inside 41 overs – before Boksburg’s target was revised to 139 following a brief stoppage due to lightning.
The local side went on to overhaul the asked total inside 43 overs for the win.
“Luckily on the day, we got over the line and we’ll take the win,” said Len Meyer, who’s been reinstated as the Boksburg captain.
“Just over the moon with our fielding as we took all our chances in the field. Truly a very good team effort: batters and bowlers, very chuffed; on to the local derby.” – @SabeloBoksburg
