Ekurhuleni community pools now open for swimming season
Hot summer days are upon us and the Ekurhuleni Metro’s community swimming pools are ready and set to cool during hot days.
This is according to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, who said as of September 1, some of the metro’s swimming pools opened their gates to patrons for the long awaited splish splash season.
“In preparation for the swimming season, some of the pools went through an extensive process of renovations and maintenance,” said Gadebe.
“The preparations included normal annual acid washing of all pools, painting of all concrete pools, repairs to all tiled pools and replacing broken tiles, repairs to pool expansion joints, repairs to all plumbing, repairs to all electrical faults, cleaning of pool area and buildings, appointment of seasonal lifeguards, and purchasing of water purification chemicals.”
There are three types of pool categories across the metro with different facilities such as Category A, which has an indoor heated swimming pool and is an arena for hosting big swimming competitions.
Category B pools are mainly outdoors with grand stands, Category C pools are normal swimming pools with basic amenities.
The metro has set the entrance times according to the pool categories as follows:
Category A (which includes Boksburg North): 5.30am to 8.30pm (Tuesday to a Thursday), 5.30am to 6pm (Friday), 10am to 6pm (Saturday), 2pm to 6pm (Sunday) and Mondays the pool is closed:
Category B and C: 10am to 6pm (Tuesday and Saturday), 2pm to 6pm (Sunday, public holidays)
Entrance fee to community pools according to their categories are as follows:
Category A – R15 PP
Category B – R10 PP
Category C – R5
The list of opened swimming pools across the metro according to the three regions include:
Eastern Region: Actonville, Benoni, KwaThema, Faranani and Nigel. Closed: Alra Park, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Selection Park and Olympia Park.
Southern Region: Delville, Elsburg, Reiger Park, Parkdene, Leondale, Vosloorus, Palm Ridge, Thokoza, Alberton and Dinwiddie. Closed: Katlehong, Van Dyk Park and Eden Park.
Northern Region: Boksburg North, Benoni Northern, Atlasville, Birchleigh, Ebuhleni, Olifantsfontein, Edenvale, Primrose and Gerdview. Closed: Kempton Park and Klopper Park
