Kempton overpower Blues 5-1
ELFA Super League coach Jacques Duvenhage has praised his Kempton Park side for their dominant win against Boksburg.
Duvenhage watched as his team afflicted a 5-1 thrashing on the Blues, in a league encounter at the Boksburg City Stadium, on Saturday, August 20.
Kempton Park striker Warren Gardner led the rout as he earned the match ball with a hat-trick.
Blues forward Wesley Vollmer took advantage of a well-executed move, which saw the striker control an airborne through pass with his head, onto his feet, before calmly placing the ball past the goalkeeper for the Blues’ solo goal late in the match.
“They (Boksburg) were six points below us on the log before kick-off, so both teams needed the win,” said the Kempton Park mentor.
“Warren (Gardner) scored a wonderful hat-trick for us and we went to sleep when they scored late in the game.
“We were the better side and more organised. They created about two chances in the game and took one and we created about eight chances and took five.
“We stuck to our game plan, which included that every third touch must be a pass.
“Our defence protected our goalkeeper well and he wasn’t tested, we were unaffected by their long ball through the middle.”
Blues’ acting coach on the day, Ernest Seforo, rued the home side’s missed chances and felt that it would’ve affected the overall outcome.
“The game was not that tough, the problem encountered is that there were good chances which we couldn’t convert to goals,” he said.
“The opponents were more organised than us and used their chances – they punished us.”
