Vuka League kicks-off to promote rugby in previously disadvantaged areas
Secondary schools in the previously disadvantaged areas of Daveyton, Etwatwa, Tembisa, Tsakane, Sebokeng, Katlehong and Reiger Park are now playing Vuka League rugby matches in their respective district clusters.
The league came about through a venture between the Valke Rugby Union and the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA).
Six teams from districts Ekurhuleni North, Gauteng East, Sedibeng West and Ekurhuleni South will be selected from those schools to battle it out for the Legends Cup during August and September, at St Dunstan’s College in Benoni.
The best players from the Legends Cup will be selected for a provincial developmental side, to participate in the Iqhawe Week Development Rugby Tournament, in Cape Town.
