Local gymnastics club on fire at SAGF awards

Four members of the Wild Flames Concordia Tumbling and Acrobatic Gymnastics Club, including coach Chris Botha, picked up top honours at the South African Gymnastics Federation awards held at the Birchwood Hotel on Saturday, June 18.

Laerskool Concordia students Kay-Lee van Eeden and Caitlin Weber, along with Boksburg High pupil Lara Scoones were named the Junior Gymnasts of the Year in the Acrobatic category.

Meanwhile, coach Botha picked up the Coach of the Year honours, also in the Acrobatic category.

“This is the top award that any gymnast can get and it is a great honour that three of our club’s gymnasts and the coach got it,” read a statement from the club.

A total of 10 gymnasts were awarded the Junior Gymnast of the Year crown with Wild Flames boasting three of the winners.
