St Dominic’s takes first place in majorette competition

St Dominic’s School for Girls hosted the Provincial Championships of the Gauteng Majorette and Cheerleaders Association (GMCA) on Saturday, June 4.

This superbly organised event went off with military precision, with each competing team performing in their allocated time slot.

The cheerleader teams from all over Gauteng had a warm sunny day on which to demonstrate their skills.

The majorette events began after 6pm by which time the early winter chill had crept in.

The athletic moves of the cheerleaders were breathtaking, with girls being flung high into the air before being caught in the safe hands of their teammates.

The majorette teams were all of a high standard – a tribute to Allan Donaldson, now in his 40th year of training the St Dominic’s majorettes.

Donaldson has brought the St Dominic’s majorettes to international standard and through his unselfish efforts has encouraged many other schools to follow suit.

The results were as below:

High School Majorette Champion of Champions: First: St Dominic (Senior). Second: Eldoraigne. Third: Sir John Adamson

Junior School Majorette Champion of Champions: First: Rynfield. Second: St Dominic’s (Junior). Third: Grace Trinity School for Girls

Cheerleading Champion of Champions: First: Brandwag. Second: Noordheuwel. Third: Bryanston
