EMPD’s Bumper to Bumper operation hits hostels

A joint operation of EMPD and SAPS members conducted a special operation at a Vosloorus hostel between Friday (May 27) midnight and Saturday (May 28) 6am.

Mnguni Hostel was the main target as information provided pointed to the hostel harboring dangerous wanted criminals and those involved in serious crimes.

EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said 10 men and two women who are between the ages of 21 and 39 were arrested for public drinking while a couple of 60 years and 50 years of age was apprehended for possession and dealing in dagga.

“A total 56 cases of beer were confiscated from a tavern operating illegally without a valid permit,” said Kgasago.

Kgasago said intelligence-driven periodical swoops on the hostels in Vosloorus will take place until those who are wanted as well as those who commit crime and use the hostels as a hiding place are apprehended.

All the arrested persons were charged at Vosloorus Police Station and are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.
