Reference number has replaced service delivery

DA Ward 32 Branch chairperson, Marius de Vos, writes:

I’m writing to express my dismay to the blatant don’t care attitude of Ekurhuleni Metro officials responsible for keeping the street lights on during the evening in Boksburg.

One specific case in point is the lack of lighting on Van Wyk Louw Road in Parkrand reported in February and on a number of occasions thereafter by residents to the call centre, but nothing has been done to date.

Not even a public notice issued by Ekurhuleni Metro to explain why certain street lights are out.

A concerned resident living close to Van Wyk Louw Street reported the same problem on April 6 and was issued reference number 1876056.

It seems to me reference numbers have replaced actual service delivery in the municipality.

Business premises in the CBD are being targeted at an increased rate over the past three months with Pep Stores being broken into on May 6.

What boggles my mind is that both residents and businesses are paying rates and taxes but are being short changed by the municipality.

A well-maintained infrastructure will retain business in the CBD and has the potential to attract more business and prospective home owners alike our suburbs.
