Tommy Gun returns to the boxing ring
Details of the exciting Ultimate Glory boxing tournament to take place at the Birchwood Hotel on Saturday, May 28, were revealed at a press conference recently held at Scarlet Ribbon in Edenvale.
Andre Thysse of Real Steel Promotions announced the main event of the night will see a classic heavyweight showdown between champion Anton Nel and Osborne Machimana where the SA title and WBF All African title will be on the line in a 12-rounder.
Having fought twice already over the years with each enjoying a knockout victory over the other, the Nel-Machimana series stands at 1-1 and the winner on Saturday is set to also claim the personal honour of being crowned the alpha male of the country’s heavyweight division.
The second title fight for the vacant Gauteng title will see Barend van Rooyen face Jade Karam in 10 rounds.
Elsewhere on the main card, Tineyi Maridzo will be looking to taint Patrick Mukala’s unbeaten record in their super middleweight bout scheduled for six rounds.
Some of the evening’s undercard bouts will feature Thysse’s son, Brandon, Benjamin Hipkins and Cowan Ray, to list a few.

Thysse had one more announcement to conclude proceedings.
The former super middleweight fighter introduced and welcomed to Real Steel Promotions a man who needs no introduction in the South African boxing fraternity – Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen.
Oosthuizen (25-0-2; 13), who confirmed his return to boxing, kept his return statement brief: “Please bring somebody to beat me. I want to see who can beat me.”
Thysse added that Oosthuizen’s official return to the ring will likely be at the end of June to early July period. – @SabeloBoksburg
