Visit South Africa’s first children’s book fair at the Birchwood
Imagine a South Africa where every child has access to a library at their own school.

For millions of pupils in disadvantaged communities, this remains a dream.
The very first South Africa’s Children Book Fair (SACBF) is aimed at making the dream a reality.
It is a project of A Book For Every Child Foundation.
SACBF will be held at Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg, from June 9 to 12, and is aimed at promoting reading – giving children the basic foundation of learning.
Reading is a critical skill that is proven to boost brain power. And, in order for South Africa to prosper, the literacy rate needs to be improved by fostering a love for reading among its citizens, starting with the young.
Through SACBF, libraries will be established at disadvantaged primary schools throughout the country.
So, who is expected to participate in this exciting event?
SACBF is intended to encourage children to develop reading skills, enabling them to explore the fascinating world of books.
The event will bring together authors, comic strip writers, publishers, book-sellers, government and all those who have a vested interest in the development of South Africa’s children.
What to expect at the Fair
The four-day exhibition event will also provide children with an environment for joyful learning and experience.
There’s an exciting programme of events lined up, which includes seminars, storytelling, poetry, book signings, art, etc.
SACBF is an enriching event for everyone who wants to help South Africa’s children grow into successful citizens.
Parents will pay a R50 entrance fee, but for children under the age of 18 entrance is free.
The first two days are dedicated to children only, and the last two are open to the rest of the family.
Treat yourself and the little ones to this inspirational event, filled with loads of entertaining books to immerse yourself in.
