Nigel becomes Owls’ fifth successive victim
The Boksburg Rugby Club prepared for its top-of-the-table crunch match against Vereeniging with a 40-30 bonus-point away win against Nigel on Saturday, April 16.
JP Joubert (brace), Adriaan van der Nest, Danie Shultz, Berend Peens and Markus Leonard all scored tries for the Owls to lead them to their fifth successive Valke Peregrine League win this season.
Kicker PJ Beukes added 10 points from the boot, converting five of his team’s six tries.
Asked for his thoughts after registering yet another victory, Owls coach Marcell Fourie said, “I think the positive vibe in the team and the hard work in training all amounts to everyone in the team wanting to make a difference.
“The players, the coaching staff and the club’s board are all working hard.
“I think the guys have bought into the plans the coaching staff has brought to them and said this is what we want and everyone is positive.”
It’s been a positive start for the Prince George Park outfit, as the first five games have seen the club collect 23 points from a possible 25.
This win has left the all-important clash against Vereeniging perfectly poised with Vereeniging mauling Brakpan, which was widely tipped as league favourites, 54-22.
Meanwhile, Boksburg’s u-21 side registered a comfortable 29-10 win while the second side drew seven-all.
Boksburg scorers:
Tries: JP Joubert (2), Adriaan van der Nest, Danie Shultz, Berend Peens, Markus Leonard. Conversions: PJ Beukes (5).
