Harbouring a deep desire to build Windmill Park community swimming pool

It is their desire to make a difference in the community that drives concerned youngsters to knock on every corporate companies' doors in the hope for securing sponsorship

Three friends with one vision from Windmill Park, Bongani Daemane, Dumisani Mbhele and Sabelo Mbhele want to build a community swimming pool. But the problem is funding.

The trio are from Corner Kingfisher Pools which was established 16 years ago by Daemane, who used to work for a swimming pool company before he decided to go solo in order to create jobs for young people.

According to Daemane, the idea of building a swimming pool in Windmill Park is to offer the youth – plagued by ills such as crime, substance abuse and teenage pregnancies – a healthy recreational alternative.

“We have realised that when the summer season comes around young people are forced to walk all the way to Boksburg swimming pool, which is just not right,” Daemane said.

According to Sabelo Mbhele, this journey from Windmill Park to Boksburg also holds plenty of dangers, as the hopeful swimmers could become victims of crime.

“We have already identified the place where we would like to build the pool and we are willing to build it but we need sponsorship for the building material,” Mbhele said.

The friends said there is definitely a need for such a pool in Windmill Park because it will encourage swimming as a sport and also provide entertainment.

Daemane says they have sought help from government structures and private sectors without success.

“We feel that if people around Ekurhuleni know our vision they can help with whatever they can to save young people and try to produce Windmill Park’s finest swimmers,” Daemane said.

Ward 99 Clr Claud Mabaso said he was never notified about the vision of the three boys as no one had come to the ward meetings to raise the matter.

“As the councillor my term year will be over soon, but they can come to my office and talk,” Mabaso said.
