United stumble against Springs in second defeat

East Rand United suffered their second loss in the Valke Peregrine League when they went down 31-21 in an away game, against Springs, on Saturday, April 2.

The visitors have quickly and cruelly experienced the difference in class between the Merlin and the Peregrine Leagues as Springs handed them their second loss in three games – a stat unimaginable in their golden Merling League season, last year.

United were made to chase the game from the onset to the omega, as the home side went into the half-time break with an eight-point lead, with the score at 19-11 before extending it to 10, before the final whistle.

Dazzling back Jackie Jonkers returned to action in style, following his injury scare in United’s previous game, with his side’s only try.

United’s other points came in the form of a penalty try, a conversion and three penalties.
