Mrs SA semi-finalist a breath of fresh air
As a woman born and bred in Sunward Park, it was only a dream for Janine Habig to one day become Mrs South Africa.
Today, Habig wakes up to see her dreams slowly moving to that point of fulfillment now that she has been selected as one of the Top 100 semi-finalist for this pageant.
Habig, who was schooled at Elspark Primary and Oosterlig Hoër, obtained her BCom Law degree at the University of Potchefstroom in 2010.
She currently works at the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners South Africa, which seeks to educate individuals on the prevention of fraud and white-collar crime.
She has been married to “the best and most loving husband on earth” for almost a year and they will be celebrating their one-year anniversary soon.
They plan on going shark cage diving in May.
Habig is a true lover of life.
“New challenges always excite me as it is an opportunity to learn and grow. ‘Optimistic’ is my middle name and I live life through that kind of lens. My friends define me as a breath of fresh air,” she said.
She also loves exercising and DIY projects.
Her reason for entering Mrs South Africa was the need for a new challenge and more opportunities to make a positive impact on other people’s lives and situations.
“There is a saying in life, ‘Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly’, and this is the story of my life,” said Habig.
Habig feels society has put too much of a burden on the modern woman.
“There are certain expectations that one needs to fulfil as a woman in order for society to accept who you are. The need for us women to fit in and be loved has resulted in us neglecting who we truly are.
“For us women to thrive and flourish is to allow our uniqueness to shine through our imperfections and learn to celebrate life as a woman with beautiful complexities,” she said.
If crowned Mrs South Africa, Habig hopes to spread this message and help women to be empowered to see themselves as a masterpiece with a purpose and so much to offer.
“What matters is not the cover but the contents and the greater purpose of finding ourselves alive today, and not only to find that purpose, but to live it fully.
“This is exactly what I would like all women to realise, should I take the crown.”

“What I love about being part of this journey is the other contestants – the stories I have heard are so mind blowing. You can’t help but be so proud to be part of this journey,” said Habig.
Her beauty tip for the week: drink lots of water, dress simply but elegantly and always remember to accessorise your outfit with a smile. Happiness is contagious.
