Boksburg clinch rare win in Scheepers show
The Boksburg Cricket Club premier side made better use of a wet wicket to grab a rare win in the season, at Pollak Park, against Springs Old Boys.

The Prince George Park outfit managed to defend their 121 score to win by 38 runs, thanks to a bowling performance by Ruben Scheepers on Sunday, March 13.
Scheepers produced what will surely be the best bowling performance by an individual this season, as he single-handedly destroyed the home side, taking eight wickets in nine overs and finishing with 8/39.
Top batsman Ruan du Plessis, who again made a telling contribution with the willow, finishing with 25 runs, which was the second highest for his side, also took a wicket in his four overs of bowling, while Freddie Whiterhorne took the other as the visitors bowled out the hosts for 83 runs.
Speaking of his team’s performance, Boksburg skipper Len Meyer heaped praise on Scheepers.
“Ruben [Scheepers] just went crazy and took eight wickets,” he said.
“It could have been nine wickets but, unfortunately, the catch was dropped. It was absolutely the best bowling I have seen in a long time; very happy the way the season is shutting down after a very difficult season with limited players.
“But we’ve pulled through and are really excited about next season.”
Asked by the Advertiser what he made of Scheepers’ heroics, Meyer’s opposite number, Daniel Andrews, had a slightly different view.
“He bowled well,” said the Springs captain.
“The pitch had a lot to do with it. His height and length were perfect for the conditions. The pitch being wet and him being tall made it really difficult.
“It was great captaining from Boksburg, who made him bowl all the time before he started taking wicket after wicket.”
Boksburg’s Duane Mountjoy top-scored for his side with the bat, with 35 runs, while Dylan James led for Springs with 28. – @SabeloBoksburg
