Five people injured in N3 head-on collision

Five people were injured, two of them critically, in a head-on collision between two cars in the early hours of March 13.

The incident occurred on the N3 highway, at the Vosloorus off-ramp.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said ER24 paramedics, Fire and Rescue and other services attended the scene and found all patients still in the vehicles.

“However, only the drivers of each vehicle were trapped and Fire and Rescue extricated both drivers,” said Bodasing.

She said that upon assessment, it was found that one driver, a man who was the only person in the vehicle, was in a critical condition.

“The other driver, a female believed to be between the ages of 50 and 60, sustained moderate injuries.

“The front passenger and a back passenger also sustained moderate injuries, however, one of the other passengers was in a critical condition.”

All patients were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care.

The exact cause of the incident is unknown.

Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
