An investigation has revealed that the man slipped and fell into the dam, while he was urinating into the water.
On Saturday afternoon, March 5, Ekurhuleni Disaster Management Services (EDMS) and SAPS rescue crews were called to the lake after the man fell into the water and never resurfaced.
An eyewitness told investigators that he and Macaga had been sitting under one of the trees along the shore, before Macaga went to relieve himself.
The witness ran to the fire station on Leeuwpoort Street, Boksburg CBD, to report the incident.
Divers rushed to the scene, and within three minutes, Macaga’s body was located about 5m offshore, according to EDMS’ William Ntladi.
The body was then removed from the water, and taken to the Germiston state mortuary.
Macaga originally hails from Bloemfontein, and his drowning has been ruled accidental.
It is still unclear as to where he lived locally. -@FanieFLK
