The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 17, and the suspect was arrested on Thursday night.
The suspect, aged between 25 and 30, is a tenant at the same property as the victim’s parents.
The mother of the young girl allegedly caught the suspect behaving in an indecent manner with her daughter.
She then reported the matter to the police.
Boksburg Norh SAPS spokesperson Lieut Juanita Coetzer said a docket for sexual assault has been opened and one suspect has been arrested.
Coetzer said the case is being investigated by the SAPS Child Protection Unit.
