Merlin League champions ready to tackle Peregrine League
East Rand United Rugby Club is ready for the big challenge lying ahead of them in the form of the Valke Peregrine League.
The Reiger Park outfit obtained its ascendancy to the Peregrine League after winning the Merlin League last season.
Following their first friendly match against Eersterust in preparation for the upcoming campaign this past weekend, United are scheduled to play two more friendlies before the league kicks off.
Asked for his thoughts on the upcoming campaign, head coach Derick Sampson responded: “The start of 2016 has been a real blessing to us.
“We had over 60 players check in for the first training session of the year on the fourth of January.
“We look good, we’re focused for this year and we’re prepared. We’re well-organised and ready.
“We made history last year and we shall make history this year again. Nothing is impossible with us,” said the charismatic mentor.
Asked how they will fare against much improved opposition this season, assistant coach Morne de Koker pointed out a certain omen.
“Before the beginning of last season, we had kits designed for us to wear in the final and we reached and won the final.
“We’re going to have a kit for this year’s final as well and it’s going to arrive imminently,” said de Koker.
United are set to face crosstown rivals, the Boksburg Rugby Club, and powerhouses of the local game, Brakpan, to list a few in the league.
The club also had a reshuffle of its management team and the Advertiser will follow up on that note. – @SabeloBoksburg
