Blues league glory: Attack wins games, defence wins championships
The Boksburg Football Club are the 2015 Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) champions.
The league triumph, which saw the Blues put together a 14-game winning streak, marks Boksburg’s first in over a decade.
It will also see the Blues play in the more fancied Super League next season – a milestone head coach, Garth Cooley, said wouldn’t have been possible without the squad’s hard work and support from the fans.
“I’d like to thank each and every player for their time, patience and commitment,” said Cooley.
Boksburg Football Club Chairman, Shaun Chaplin, also weighed-in on the league triumph.
“It’s fantastic on my side,” he enthused.
“It’s brought pride back in Boksburg. Boksburg is back in the Super League and we’re very excited. It’s exactly where we wanted to be when we started the planning to getting the side back on top five years ago.
“I’d like to congratulate the coach, Garth, his captain Don (Donovan Sole) and the rest of the squad for doing a fantastic job going all the way back to pre-season preparations.”
The Blues won 15 of their 22 league games – finishing with 47 points – five clear of runners-up Zwide and six clear of last season’s champions, Alberton, who finished third.
They lost five, drew two, and scored 37 goals in total.
Midfielder Godwin Muzivandareva was named the team’s Player of the Season.
CBC Old Boys finished in 10th position with 18 points.
