Safety tips from the Dawn Park Police Station

This is the time of the year when people prepare for the long holidays.

Some will spend holidays away from their homes; this obviously exposes them and their properties to criminals.

The Dawn Park Police Station advises people to keep safe by adhering to the following tips:

• Leave somebody to guard the property all the time you are away.

• Inform your trusted neighbours that you will be away and ask them to report any stranger or strange activities to the police.

• Do not leave your vehicle idling on the driveway.

• When driving home at night, call someone to open the gate for you.

• At night, always keep your security gate and doors locked.

• When children are playing outside, they must remain within sight of their parents.

• Avoid walking alone in the dark and in dodgy places; walk where there are street lights or in groups.

• Avoid walking in open fields, especially during the night.

• When driving in the car or parking at malls, always keep your valuables hidden from criminals, especially when you are stationary at traffic lights.
