Taylor beats Fourie in Aces Tennis League final

Kevin Taylor defeated Andries Fourie in the cup final, to be crowned the Aces Tennis League champion, at Parklands Estate, as the ATL inauguration season came to a close on Sunday, November 29.

The lanky Taylor, whose height advantage was put to good use as he covered ground a tad faster than his opponent, came away with top honours, with a 6-4; 6-4 final score.

The final showdown was exactly what the doctor had ordered for the day, with both finalists enjoying convincing wins in their respective semi-finals, to set up a worthy final.

Taylor emerged victorious, with scores of 6-2; 6-3 in the semis, while Fourie booked his final place following his 6-0; 6-0 victory.

The ATL is the first private tennis league for individual tennis players in the country and it was launched over the weekend of August 29 and 30, at Parklands Estate.

The idea behind the ATL is to revive interest in tennis in the country, by allowing players to compete without having to commit to clubs and/or affiliations, or wait for tennis tournaments.

The leagues within ATL run on a weekly basis, with players in each division playing each other in a round-robin format.

The next instalment of the ATL will be an eight-week season, scheduled to start in early January, and will include breaks to allow players participating in the Gauteng East Open time off.

The season will be a round-robin league, followed by a finals weekend, when players will compete for various cups and prizes.

For more information, or to enter, contact the ATL at info@saf-fa.co.za, or call Timothy Hills on 084 602 7887.
