Police come under fire from armed house robbers

Boksburg police officers came under attack while responding to a house robbery in progress, during the early hours of Friday, November 13.

The officers were responding to a robbery at a Villa Divine Complex in Parkrand, where two men reportedly held a family at gunpoint and stole goods worth about R6 500.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, officers had been on patrol when they received a report of a robbery in progress at the complex.

This was after the thugs forced their way into the family’s house, tied up the family members and stole valuable goods, including jewellery and cash.

The complainant told the police that they (the victims) were woken up by the torch light in their faces at about 3am, before the pair threatened them with firearm.

“When the police arrived on the scene they came under attack from the two robbers, who were at the time exiting the property.

“As the suspects were fleeing from the scene on foot, they opened fire on the police and a shoot-out ensued between the two parties.

“The suspects subsequently ran away and our members gave chase until the pair disappeared in the veld nearby the scene,” said Ngobese.
