McKenzie, Cronje pulverise KwaThema
A second wicket 150-run partnership between top orders Bruce McKenzie and Heinrich Cronje spearheaded the Boksburg Premier XI to a conventional win over KwaThema at Prince George Park on Sunday, October 1.
McKenzie hit a century, while Cronje finished with 75, as the home side disposed of the visitors by 110 runs in the Eastern Premier League encounter.
Having won the pre-match toss, Boksburg captain Len Meyer’s choice of batting first paid dividends for the home side who, apart from an early hiccup, where stalwart John Haywood departed after just five runs, made a flying start with McKenzie and Cronje at the crease.
With the base for a massive total laid by the day’s star duo, Boksburg built on the cushion as they put themselves in the driver’s seat, posting a comforting 246/7 in their 50-over innings.
In response, the home side’s bowlers complemented the influential batting as they put KwaThema under constant pressure.
Boksburg’s chances of victory were boosted as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals.
Meyer took three wickets before finishing with numbers of 3/19, including one maiden, in his allotted 10 bowling overs. He was joined by Ruben Scheepers in the hat-trick category, as his red-hot bowling form continued.
Scheepers finished with 3/34 and three maidens, following his 10 overs, while Herman Meyer finished with 2/33 in nine overs.
KwaThema went on to finish with 136 all-out after 39 overs, with opening batsman Albert Mohlala finishing as his side’s top scorer, with 36.
Musa Mancele bowled well and was rewarded with three Boksburg wickets – giving him numbers of 3/37 in eight overs, including two maidens.
Meyer’s men host Duduza next, while KwaThema return to Boksburg for a meeting with CBC Old Boys. Both fixtures are scheduled for Sunday, November 15 – @SabeloBoksburg
