Reiger Park community fed up with drug dealers
Acting on information supplied by fed-up community members, the Reiger Park Police arrested 27 suspects for drug-related crime in one week.
Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela said that, with the cooperation of the community, the police can see light at the end of the tunnel in the war against drugs.
“Our partnership with community members, through the community forums, is now bearing fruit and the community is starting to trust the police,” he added.
“We are now receiving more tip-offs, as well as praise from community members, for our efforts to rid this community of drug dealers.”
Phathela said the station management has devised a plan to deal with the prevalent crime spike during the festive season.
Their contingency plans include high police visibility, stop and search operations, foot beats and other activities to prevent and discourage crime in this time.
“We thank the community for their support and we encourage them to continue sending their anonymous tip-offs via SMS to 32211, or to phone the police station on 011 916 7000,” Phathela added.
