According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, for the entire month of October free vehicle testing of all public transport vehicles and trucks with a gross vehicle mass of 3 500 kg and above will be conducted at any of the Ekurhuleni Testing Centers.
The free testing will be done between 8.30am and 2.30pm on week days, except for Wednesdays when it will begin at 9.30am.
No prior booking is required.
Boksburg Testing Station in Reservoir Road is also participating in the programme.
“In keeping with Transport Month, Ekurhuleni faith-based organisations will congregate for a Transport Indaba on October 26 at the Germiston City
Hall,” said Gadebe.
“This is in reaction to the high number of deaths on the country’s road which continues to be a concern for government and various organisations.
“In the wake of recent fatal taxi industry unrest the interdenominational prayer conference is anticipated to address critical issues affecting public transport operators and commuters.”
He said, to conclude the month long celebrations, residents in Ramaphosa Informal Settlement will see the long awaited new Ramaphosa Taxi Rank being officially declared open on Friday, October 30.
