Line dancers bedazzle on United Kingdom stage
Line dancers from the Renegades Line Dancing Studio, in Boksburg, recently danced to glory at the World Dance Masters.
The prestigious event, catering for contestants beyond the age of 50, was held in Blackpool, England, from August 14 to 16.
Twenty three countries, with a total entry of 268 competitors (of which 28 were South Africans), hit the floor for some line dancing magic.
World Dance Masters is one of the biggest line dance organisations in the world.
Tracy Hancock, who is a teacher at the local studio, along with Roger Pearcey (66) won the senior duo’s section becoming world champions.
Pearcey also won the Solo Advanced Gold Section, making him a double winner.
He then qualified in the All Stars category, where he finished second in Solo Novice Silver.
“It was an amazing experience; meeting dancers from all over the world and being part of the competition was fantastic.
“I am so proud of my dancers, we are hoping that next year we can go back to Blackpool and do it all over again,” said Hancock.
Roger echoed Hancock’s sentiments. “It was such a rewarding experience. The organisation was outstanding and
the standard of dancing from the participants from all over the world was spectacular,” he said.
“I am proud to have done so well for my studio and South Africa.”
Douglas Angilley (53) also competed for the studio.
“Attending the masters and being part of the South African team was a real honour; the competition weekend was amazing!” he said.
“The professionalism of all the competitors and the beautiful costumes just made me proud of what has been achieved by the line dance community.
“The South African team held their own with the best in the world.
”On a personal note, it was extremely exciting and, hopefully, the energy and the vision I have brought back with me will help me grow myself over the coming years.”
Classes are held on Monday evenings, at the Strelitzia Service Centre, in Boksburg North. Beginners classes are from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and the intermediates meet from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
