Boksburg Cricket Club regains Premier League status

After having to prove themselves last season, the Boksburg premier cricket side bounced back to win the Easterns Promotion League and to regain their place in the Premier League.

Boksburg captain Len Meyer outlined that hard work earned his fellow charges the prestigious promotion.

“We were confident about regaining our status, but had to knuckle down and work hard to get back to where we belong,” he said.

Boksburg will face premier heavyweights, Benoni Northerns, CBC Old Boys Cricket Club and Kempton Park, among others, in the 2015/16 Premier League.

Boksburg Cricket Club still remains the only Easterns side to ever win the National Club Champs – a tournament contested between winners of provincial leagues across the country.

The club is in full swing ahead of the new campaign with all its sides already hitting their straps with practice.

The new season gets underway in October, with Boksburg entering senior sides for both Saturdays and Sundays into the respective leagues.

The junior club also starts, catering from under-8 to 14 players. Trials to be held at the club in PG Park have been set as follows:

Under-8s: Saturday, September 19. 8am to 11am

Under-10s: Saturday, September 19. Noon to 3pm

Colts: Sunday, September 20, 8am to 11am (15 to 17 year-olds)

Under-12s: Sunday, September 20. Noon to 3pm
