War on drugs gains momentum

The Reiger Park SAPS has intensified its war on drug and other illegal substances in its policing precinct.

On a weekly basis, the SAPS confiscates dozens of drugs and arrests scores of alleged drug pushers.

Officers arrested 17 people for drug-related crimes between July 20 and 27.

The police have acknowledged that this achievement is due to the continuous community involvement in the fight against crime in their neighbourhoods.

“We are planning to stage numerous operations, together with other law enforcement agencies, including the EMPD, Crime Intelligence, K9 Unit, Flying Squad and others,” said the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela.

The following arrests were made in the area between July 20 and 27:

Possession of Drugs: 17

Theft|: 2

Malicious damage to property: 4

Assault GBH: 3

Possession of suspected stolen goods: 3

Burglary: 2

Common assault: 3

Contravention of a protection order: 1

Drunk and driving: 7

Dealing in liquor without a licence: 3

Interference with police duties: 1

Intimidation: 1

Business robbery: 1

Possession of dangerous weapons: 2

Murder: 1
