Team SA off to LA for Special Olympics
Team South Africa was given a special send-off to the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, at the Birchwood Hotel, on Sunday, July 19.
The Games will be held in Los Angeles, in the United States of America, from July 25 to August 2 and the group will battle it out against more than 170 countries, in 26 Olympic-style events.
Special Olympics chairman Dr Mathews Phosa, who addressed the team, boosted the squad’s morale with brief, strong words.
“Good luck, win,” he stated.
“If you lose, be proud losers.”
Special Olympics CEO Igna Steyn also wished the team well.
“This group is such a special group; we want to celebrate their abilities and they will go to LA to show those abilities. They will do well and make South Africa proud,” she said.
The Games will be a celebration of the talents of those with intellectual disabilities, furthering the global mission of Special Olympics.
Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation Gert Oosthuizen also attended the send-off.- @SabeloBoksburg
