Harran roars ahead with promising championship start
Local biker Brent Harran enjoyed a successful day’s racing at the Killarney Racetrack, in Cape Town, during the recent DEOD/Gas Motorsport Championship.
Harran travelled down to the Western Cape full of confidence after having had his first win of the season at the Zwartkops Raceway, outside Pretoria, in April, on his Kawasaki ZX10R, 1 000cc Superbike.
It started out as a promising weekend for the 21-year-old, with him being in the top three riders on the circuit during the practise sessions.
His race day, however, then took a wrong turn.
His bike developed an electrical problem prior to qualifying, forcing him to miss the qualifying session as well as the Superpole grid decider. This put him at the back of the grid for the start of the race.
Undeterred by the situation, Harran managed to forge into the lead after just three laps of the race and he, along with rivals Clinton Seller and Matthew Scholtz, kept the crowds on their feet with some tough, skilful high speed racing.
The local starlet managed to keep his cool and fend off his two competitors to win his second straight DEOD/Gas Motorsport Championship event, following his triumph in the capital city.
He now finds himself in second place in the national championship points tally.
