Injured Colgate Race athlete recovering well

The Boksburg Athletic Club said the athlete who was run down during the Colgate Race on May 3 is recovering well.

“Hayley Ryan has been moved to a general ward. Her leg will need skin grafts, which is hoped will be done next week,” said Colgate Race organiser Linda Vogel.

Ryan was expected to go into theatre for tests on May 14.

Vogel said Hayley has a long way to go on her road to recovery and will be in hospital for about six weeks.

“She is in good spirits and would like to thank everybody for all the good wishes and kind concern.”

For those who would like to send cards, flowers and gifts can send them to Union Hospital, Ward 6, Section 4.

“Please note that the family would like to keep visitors to a minimum so please take that into consideration.”

Vogel thanks all the clubs for the wonderful support they have shown Ryan.

“It just goes to show what a wonderful lot of people make up the running community in South Africa.”
