EG Jansen claim crushing victories at Kearsney Festival

A highly successful eighth Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival wrapped up on Monday, April 6, with the announcement of five players who each received bursaries to the Sharks Academy for 2016.

Valued at over R100 000 each, one of the recipients was hooker Nico Peyper from EG Jansen.

The bursary includes a contract with the academy next year, accommodation and a tuition bursary with one of its education partners.

The festival, which ran between April 2 and 6, was well supported throughout, with crowds enjoying a high standard of competitive rugby.

Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen held their own and doubled their winning percentage, compared to last year where they only won one out of their three outings.

This time around however, they only went down against an efficient Affies side in 41-5 pasting.

The local school went on to hand out a 31-6 hiding of their own, at the expense of Framesby, before ending the tournament on a positive note with a famous 23-17 victory against Grey College, to earn themselves a 66.6 winning percentage.

Sharks Academy managing director Etienne Fynn said South Africa was blessed to have a consistently high amount of school talent coming through each year.

“An individual can only perform within good structures; and a lot of credit needs to go to these participating schools, their coaches and the structures,” he said.

“The pride and passion the boys displayed was fantastic. When they play as professionals one day, they must never forget this pride and passion with which they played at school level.” – @SabeloBoksburg
