Former local high school pupil speaks out about using steroids

The Advertiser had an opportunity to talk to a 23-year-old former high school pupil who started using anabolic steroids in Grade Nine.

The Advertiser asked the gym fanatic, who requested to remain anonymous, the following:

Why did you start using steroids?

I felt I had trained for a long time without results and my friends started getting bigger than me. So I started using them.

I’m sure you’re aware of the dangers of using performance-enhancing drugs, how did you stay safe?

My dad had a friend who’s a bodybuilder so he would advise me, because steroids are dangerous. They don’t only make your muscles grow, but your organs grow as well. So I used Essentaile and Crucialls (liver pills) for detoxing.

What advice would you give high school pupils who are serious about sports, regarding steroid usage?

“Firstly, those who want to use them must be willing to take the risks, like liver damage. I weighed 120kg at one point in my life and I couldn’t even scratch my back, because I was too big, so I decided enough was enough. I’ve since lost 15kgs by jogging and eating clean.

“Eating the right foods and exercising is an effective alternative to taking steroids.”
