United dent CBC title hopes with D/L method win
The CBC Old Boys Premier XI suffered a setback, at home, in the quest for title glory, when they lost to United on Sunday, January 25.
Rain proved to be CBC’s nemesis.
The home side piled up 243/7, before being harshly denied by the controversial Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method, when rain stopped play halfway into United’s innings.
With the visitors on 79 for one, rain started to fall with top order batsmen Zander Els (29 not out) and Riaan van der Merwe (unbeaten 15) standing, before their side were declared winners by five runs, after the D/L method was applied by the game’s local body, Easterns Cricket.
CBC openers Wesley Coulentianos and Dylan Bennie could manage only 12 and five runs respectively, in a slow start from the home side.
In came Wickus Germishuyzen.
The top order batsman sparked the home side’s batting with his half-century (59), while team mates Nicholas Lockyer (66) and Tyrone Cameron (45) helped towards the impressive total score.
