Bardene woman (69) nearly arrested twice for ‘electricity theft’
Norma Dyson (69), from Bardene, was nearly arrested twice by the SAPS in December, for electricity theft.

Her trouble started on December 8, when she spent a week without power following a cable theft.
She contacted the metro’s electricity department and technicians came and connected a temporary cable to the bottom of a lamp post, which ran across the road to her house.
An unknown person, who noticed the cable, contacted the police and reported the ”theft of electricity”.
The police came rushing to Dyson’s house.
“It took me half an hour of explaining before the police understood what was going on and they left,” she said.
A few days later the cable got damaged as cars drove over it. She contacted the metro again, as the cable was now posing a danger.
“The technicians came to fix the cable, but afterwards the unknown person again contacted the police to cry foul. For the second time they came — with sirens blaring!” said Dyson.
Again she had to explain herself to the police, who wanted to arrested her.
“Somebody reported me twice,” she said.
”Can you believe it? I would really like to know who it is as I have lived peacefully with everyone in this suburb for 37 years.”
Dyson’s electricity problem was finally sorted out after four weeks and she thanked all who helped her.
