The event was held at the police station and was attended by police officers, members of the station’s victim empowerment centre, a representative from Gauteng Department of Social Development and children from two local crèches, as well as their teachers.
During the event children were encouraged and taught that they should report any kind of abuse.
One of the event organisers, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, said that the community needs to work together to stop violence against women and children, asserting that no violence against women and children is justifiable.
The station will be embarking on a series of activities aimed at raising awareness on violence; domestic violence in particular.
The launch came a few days after South Africa kicked off its annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
