GP Premier does not meet his targets – DA

Gauteng Premier David Makhura puts the provincial government's credibility at risk by waiting for the national government to launch its integrated Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and Community Workers Programme (CWP).

This is according to DA Gauteng Provincial Leader, John Moodey.

“During his state of the province address, Makhura promised to unveil a comprehensive and more integrated EPWP and CWP, which would create more than 1-million job opportunities over the next five years within 100 days of taking office.

“Today, 151 days since that promise was made, in response to my question in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, the Premier said that he had to wait for the national launch, and that the provincial launch would take place on 11 December – 167 days on.

“It is concerning that the Premier makes promises to the people on public platforms, and then does not meet the targets he sets for his own administration.

“Job creation is critical to the people of Gauteng, and unimplemented promises damage the credibility of the Premier’s so-called ‘activist government’.”

“Of further concern are other promises with looming deadlines, such as the much-anticipated findings of the E-tolls review panel, which are due to be presented a mere five days from now,” he adds.

“Was this another promise dependent on the actions of national government? If so, the review panel’s finding will never see the light of day.”

Moodey states that the DA will continue holding the Premier to account until he delivers on all his promises. -@NalediBoksburg
