The Climb details the life of cyclist Chris Froome

Irish sports writer David Walsh tells the story behind the 2013 Tour de France winner's life, a background about Froome's mother 's cremation in Kenya, the story behind his nationality and, of course, his win in the 2013 version of one of sport's most gruelling races: the Tour de France.

Review: A closer look at the 100th Tour de France winner, a interesting insight.

When it comes to Froome’s nationality, the book gives a simple but yet detailed description on the topic. To sum it up nicely, the book helps to explain things.

Froome grew up as a son of British colonialism in Kenya. His country of birth is many things today.

Froome opts to ride with a British license as a way to distance himself from a seemingly controversial Kenyan federation.

The book is divided into three parts: namely Africa, Europe and the Tour de France. Many might know Froome for his Tour exploits and, thus, be interested in the third part of the book, but it’s actually the Africa part that evokes the most interest.

Born in a widely disadvantaged country, his privileged upbringing means there’s more to Froome than his Tour win.

The Climb is a story of an intriguing career path, where on numerous occasions fortune steers him to greater heights.

To add intrigue, the book also takes you through the Froome versus Bradley Wiggins rivalry.

What’s next for Froome?

At just 29, Froome has more stories in his life ahead of him and here, Walsh gives a description of where Froome comes from rather to where he’s going next.

That honour will have to be carried out from Froome himself, and we’ll just have to wait and see.

This page-turner will not only entertain you, but will give you all the answers you require about one of the better cyclers of his generation. – @SabeloBoksburg
