Cricket: Boksburg outplay Daveyton

Boksburg Cricket Club produced an efficient batting performance to clinch a 114-run win over their Daveyton counterparts in their Promotion League encounter at Prince George Park on Sunday, November 9.

The homeside, boosted by a near full-strength line-up, piled a daunting 251/9 in their innings before reducing Daveyton to a mere 137/10 in 37.1 overs.

Following his win in the pre-match toss, Boksburg skipper Len Meyer and team had to wait until their fourth wicket to click into gear as Freddie Whitehorne joined proceedings.

The top order set the tone for the victory as he hit 115 to put Boksburg in a good place. Whitehorne’s century was preceded by John Haywood’s 16, Michael Holtzhausen’s 17 and Carel du Preez’s 19.

The win, which arrives behind a rather indifferent start to life in the Promotion League for the homeside, is exactly what the doctor ordered according to Meyer.

“This one (the win) will bring the confidence back up in the side,” said the skipper.

“We haven’t had the opportunity to field a full side this season, this team is the closest we’ve had to full-strength, but I’m very happy with everyone’s performance; it was a true team effort and there’s only going to be growing from this victory.”

Meanwhile, Ruben Scheepers took 4/33 in 10 overs while Haywood clinched 3/18 in five overs as Boksburg gradually broke down the Daveyton batting order.

Daveyton’s Tshepo Nkoane also enjoyed a good bowling outing with his 3/37 in five overs with teammates Itumeleng Motho and Raymond Ramahlo taking two wickets apiece.
