CBC in high gear against Actonville
CBC Old Boys walked away with an emphatic seven-wicket home victory against Actonville Spurs on Sunday, November 9, to extend their impressive start to the season.
CBC captain Willie Bernhardt won the pre-match coin toss and sent his troops to field. Spurs, led by Mathew Nielsen’s unbeaten 66, posted a challenging 196 in their designated 50 overs.
Mekyle Pillay (37) and Ahmed Mohammed (34) added the significant extras for the visitors before they fell for 196/ 9.
CBC’s top-order again came to the fore and raced to the 197 target in 37.1 overs to earn the league’s early pace-setters a second bonus point in as many weeks for securing the game in less than 40 overs.
The homeside, who were without star batsman Wesley Coulentianos, scored 124 from their first three wickets with Dylan Smalberger (16) and Akshay Maharaj (60) combining for 76, which sandwiched Gert van Zyl’s 48.
Nicholas Lockyer and Tyrone Cameron secured victory for the home team with their unbeaten 32 and 25 respectively, leaving CBC with seven wickets to spare. – @SabeloBoksburg
