Coulentianos leads historical Kempton win

CBC Old Boys’ Premier League XI maintained their perfect start to the new season with a vital four-wicket away win over defending champion Kempton Park on Sunday, October 12.

Meanwhile, Old Boys’ opening batsman Wesley Coulentianos scored his second century in as many weeks, with his 102 not-out, as he and his teammates downed another close rival in Kempton, which follows their win over Benoni Northerns in the opening week of the season.

The homeside posted 178/10 in 47.2 overs before Old Boys overhauled the target with their 179/6 after 46.1 overs.

Asked what was key for his side’s win, Old Boys’ skipper, Willie Bernhardt responded: “It was just a really good team performance; although it wasn’t a flawless or perfect match, every player called upon delivered.

“I’m happy with the guys’ attitude throughout the day. Kempton was tough as usual; they’re always a good side. I’m just happy that we could pull together and get the result.”

Bernhardt’s counterpart, Johan Fourie, echoed his opposite’s sentiments, pointing out Coulentianos’ remarkable performance behind the bat as the difference in the match.

“We missed five players, all first team batters, so that obviously made it a bit tougher against a good CBC side; congratulations to Coulentianos who played very well for his 102 not-out,” said the Kempton captain.
