A cupcake for a needy cause

Community members on the East Rand bought 3 500 cupcakes to aid Cupcakes of Hope in celebration of National Cupcake Day for Kids with Cancer on Saturday, September 27.

East Rand Mall shoppers were tempted to buy the colourful, delicious-looking cupcakes.

“Our aim is to ease the pain and suffering that children with cancer have to endure by raising awareness for them,” says event organiser, Mariam Fakir.

This was the third time East Rand Mall hosted the Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer event.

“We’ve had a positive outcome so far. There’s been great support towards this event. People also tell us their own cancer-related stories.”

Paul Vieira, owner and creator of Cake Extreme, was a big attraction on the day. He joined in on the fun and decorated cupcakes in front of a curious crowd.

Build-a-Bear East Rand Mall donated a teddy bear towards the organisation which they were raffling.

All funds raised on this day went to Cupcakes of Hope.
