MEC gives clarity on new hospital taxi routes

Consultation between the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, the Ekurhuleni metro and taxi operators has taken place to plan routes to the new Natalspruit Hospital.

According to Janet Semple, DA Constituency head for Boksburg, this comes as conflict between taxi associations flared up over who would service commuters traveling to the hospital.

“In a written response, Roads and Transport MEC, Ismail Vadi, indicated that the Vosloorus Boksburg District Taxi Association (VBDTA) and nine other taxi associations have an operational agreement to work with one another.

“This will come in to effect once the metro, under whose jurisdiction taxi ranks and routes fall, has submitted route amendments to the department and the Provincial Regulatory Authority,” says Semple.

She adds that the DA will monitor this process to ensure the process is executed timeously to benefit commuters traveling to and from the hospital. – @CarmenBoksburg
