High-jumper impresses in the US

Tiaan Steenkamp (18), impressed at the recent IAAF World Junior Championships held in Oregon, US, posing a 2m jump to finish 21st out of 26 athletes.

The Championships, which are held every two years, cater for junior athletes 19 years of age and younger.

Steenkamp enjoyed a successful 2014 season in which he achieved a personal best of 2.18m and consistently jumped 2.15 throughout the campaign.

During the qualifying phase at the Championships, however, he managed a 2m jump, well under the qualifying height of 2.14m.

The 2m meant he failed to make it into the final, finishing joint 21st.

Team US led the medal count with 21.
